BIO: Returning to the Colts for a fourth season, Mathew will be taking on a new role as Assistant Visual Caption Head. Mathew grew up in a family who was extremely involved in the marching arts and his love for the activity became evident at an early age. At thirteen Mathew marched as a mellophone with the Spirit of Atlanta. He continued his performance career marching for one season in the Madison Scouts color guard and seven seasons as a trumpet and mellophone with the Phantom Regiment where he won the DCI World Championship in 2008.
Indoors, Mathew spent nine seasons, as a marching member of Juxtaposition Winterguard, from Westerville Ohio. In his time there the ensemble made the journey from A Class all the way to World Class. In 2009 the guard was the Independent Open Class Bronze Medalist at the WGI World Championships. After being promoted to World Class for the 2010 season the Juxtaposition placed 10th in the Independent World Class finals.
Mathew is currently an integral part of the visual staff at the six-time BOA Grand National finalist Kennesaw Mountain High School from Kennesaw, GA. While at Kennesaw Mountain, not only does he work with the band, but works with the Winterguard program.
Previously Mathew was the head marching instructor for the seven-time Kentucky State Champion Paul Laurence Dunbar High School Marching Band from Lexington, KY. Mathew taught color guard and marching for several marching bands, indoor drumlins and Winterguard across Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky including Westerville HS, Paul Laurence Dunbar WG and Central Crossing HS Drumline and Colorguard.
Mathew currently resides in Woodstock, GA with his fiancé and their two dogs, Bella and Harley. Mathew is pursuing a career in music education and hopes to someday have his own high school band program.
