My name is Chase Higgins, and I marched Colts from 2004 to 2006 on bass drum and cymbals. My time spent as a Colt had a huge impact on me, and it inspired me to team up with a few like-minded friends to create a non-profit organization called Biking for Baseball. This summer, our team is biking across the country to raise awareness for the importance of positive mentoring relationships in childrens lives. Along the way, we are hosting a sports-centric youth event in each city to show people the importance of mentoring young people and to draw attention towards existing mentoring relationships within each city. In total, Biking for Baseball will be cycling 11,000 miles, and we will be attending baseball games in each major league baseball stadium where we will further promote our message to our countrys baseball fans. By the end of our trip, it will be the longest charity bike ride in the world. Our goals are very similar to the Colts mission statement: "We use music and excellence to teach each other about success in life." We are using sports and mentorship to teach each other about success in life. My three years with the Colts had a very positive impact on my life, and I'm trying to provide a similar experience to others through a different outlet. Our endeavor has provided us with a platform to engage with millions of people from coast to coast with help from a strong social media presence. Our website is www.bikingforbaseball.org and we are on facebook (Biking for Baseball) and twitter (@Biking4Baseball) as well. We will regularly update from the road so people can track our progress and provide encouragement along the way. By following along with us and sharing with your friends and family, you are providing support in showing others how this cause we feel strongly about is very important. Thank you so much for your time, and good luck on the upcoming season!
