The Colt Cadets weekend overnight rehearsal at Jefferson Middle School was a very productive and positive experience for members and parents alike. New drill designer Jeff King, from Zionsville, IN, got his first chance to see the 2009 corps. Also in town for the weekend were a few of our summer staff members who were able to get to know the new members. The weekend's objectives were many and were all equally important: - an opportunity for new and returning parents to get to know each other and the program - a chance to learn some of the opening drill - more music shaping within the brass and percussion ensemble - new color guard work along with some weapons basics - clean-up, repair, and remodeling projects on the equipment trailer - measure and fit uniforms for the entire corps A parents' meeting on Sunday afternoon was attended by a full room of enthusiastic parents and supporters. Many questions were answered and many of the volunteer positions for the summer, our annual car wash, overnight trips, and bingo were filled. The Colt Cadets capped off the weekend by performing to a wildly receptive audience of parents and friends. Playing through the first two minutes of the opener with drill, as well as performing the 2nd and 3rd pieces in their 2009 program, gave the members and staff a burst of enthusiasm for the summer ahead. The biggest impressions left on us all from the weekend were the willingness of the members to work hard and long, how quickly they are going to learn new things this summer, and how well-prepared and designed the program is by the staff. The next rehearsal for the Colt Cadets is Sunday afternoon May 17.
