Program Notes

The mystery of the sorcerers unfolds in the opening production, "Unraveling," by Andrew Boysen, Jr., a native of Cedar Rapids, IA, and currently a composer and professor of music at the University of New Hampshire. A classic tale of good versus evils develops throughout "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" as the sorcerers are divided over whether their newfound gifts should be used to help or hinder. In the wonderfully tuneful ballad, "For Good," from the Broadway musical "Wicked," the positive forces prove themselves too overwhelming against any opposition. The sorcerers are joyous in celebration. But what of the one that remains...One dark and evil element becomes more powerful than all. Propelled by the thunder of drums, this one is capable of erasing all good. Set to the bold and powerful "Night On Bald Mountain," you can expect the unexpected. But does it really matter who prevails in the end?
